Drs. Teten Masduki

Drs. Teten Masduki is currently Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises of the Republic of Indonesia.

The previous positions he has held in Government are as Chief of Presidential Staff of Indonesia (2015 – 2018); Special Staff to the Minister of State Secretariat (2014-2015); Chairman of the Supervisory Board, National Logistics Agency (2018-March 2019) and Commissioner, Indonesian Ombudsman.

He was born into a farming family in Garut, West Java, and spent his early years immersed in the rural lifestyle. He completed his secondary education at SMAN 1 Garut and went on to study for a Bachelor of Education at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (IKIP) at Bandung. His awareness of social issues began in high school and continued during his university years where he actively participated in activities that supported farmers in Indonesia.

Drs. Teten Masduki’s extensive contributions to the development and success of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Indonesia highlight his profound impact on the nation’s economic landscape. His achievements align closely with the principles of management accounting, and include the transformation of micro enterprises from informal to formal — resulting in significant growth in start-ups with the establishment of over400 modern cooperatives.

In response to global dynamics, the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs under Drs. Teten Masduki’s leadership is driving SMEs to “go global,” aiming to increase their participation in the global value chain. Key strategies include enhancing access to financing, which is crucial for accelerating SME development and elevating their status both domestically and internationally.

Drs. Teten Masduki is one of the founders of Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) and he played a pivotal role in establishing the organization in 1998, which has since become one of the leading anti-corruption organisations in Indonesia. Under his leadership, ICW has been instrumental in promoting transparency, accountability, and the fight against corruption in Indonesia.

Drs. Teten Masduki has also served as the Secretary General of Transparency International Indonesia (TII) from 2000 to 2008. During this period, he played a significant role in advancing anti-corruption initiatives and enhancing the organization’s impact on promoting transparency and accountability in Indonesia.

Amongst his awards and honors are the Suardi Tasrif Award (1999) and the Ramon Magsaysay Award (2005).

The Institute of Certified Management Accountants is honoured to induct Drs. Teten Masduki to the Global Management Accounting Hall of Fame® for his significant impact on Indonesia’s economic landscape and on his dedication in promoting sustainable development, economic empowerment, transparency, and accountability in advancing the profession in Indonesia.
